Please, I dare you to 'start on' PvP, and point me out what RPG game, singleplayer or online, has better PvP than this old game called Guild Wars - or to a game that you yourself created and is better.

People who want to play with other people actually have proper guild, alliance, and use friends list. They don't moan in the forums while their friends list is empty, and their guild consist of 3 family members or old friends and don't want to leave for new guild because they're emotionally tied to current guild.

I agree that to those who want strictly multiplayer this game isn't "it". But I don't think that people who want a crowded game should be looking at 5yr old games anyway. They should be looking at the newest hyped MMORPG which will die in few months anyway, then migrate to newest hyped MMORPG.

I've been playing guild wars since 06' and I still have fun going in doing missions, helping others. I constantly get people to pick a copy up and help level them. Lately I get online once a day to do the WIK wanted quests.

Best way I've found when starting a new character with ALL episodes (prophecies, factions, nightfall) and the expansion (Eye of the north), is to start out in prophecies, get to after the searing as fast as possible (just select a second profession), then get a run or fight your way to Lion's Arch. From there get sunspears in kryta quest, finish that which will put you into Nightfall at Kamadan, step outside Kamadan grab up 4 level 15 heroes, map back to Lion's Arch, then get quest from Sergio to get over to Factions. Once in factions, take ALL 3000xp quests in Kaineng center and Budyk Byway.

And if you want extra character help in the byway do not finish the Welcome to Cantha quest. You'll have 5 extra characters fighting with you.

You'll be level 20 pretty fast.

The game is old and most of the people left.

There are still big alliances and guilds with a lot of members. Also there are a lot more people in America Districts if you want to join a group. War in Kryta and some other events keep the game alive.

If you are new to the game you can try and achieve Titles. If you want to have full experience, you need to have all campaigns to access all features of the game like heroes, skills, story and places. Eye of the North introduces a great element which is the Hall of Monuments (HoM) where you can display your titles and link them to your account of Guild Wars 2 to unlock special features.

If you want to start, well ... joina big alliance/guild do PvE and PVP. PvE is good. Go first for Prophecies or Factions and then Nightfall and finally EotN. You can go first to Nightfall to grab initial heroes if you like to make the task easier.

If you want to level a character fast I suggest you to first go with Factions (big exp with quests) and try to be at lvl 10 when you leave the island (usually ppl leave between 12-15 so no big problem but u can go up for 19) then move to EotN and go for the quest Kilroy Stonekin's Punch-Out Extravaganza! Lots of experience and you level fast.

As for PvP I can't tell much because I mainly play PvE but I can say that competitive missions are cool. I usually do Jade Quarry when I go for PvP and it's really great.

Honestly you guys are ridiculously pessimistic. The game will be great fun the first time through, after that it will start to get boring but JOIN A GUILD. Joining a guild makes things 100x easier, find a guild doing something you like and then do stuff with them, if you don't like it you can leave the guild anytime.

If you ever get bored/need a break from guild wars you can do so thanks to no monthly fee. Sure heroes don't talk but the only people worth playing with imho are friends/guildies that you know because you have a great time with them. Sure you can meet a few chill people from time to time but usually you just run into asshats that draw stupid things on the compass and don't respond to anything you say. The better players are all doing the daily quests which still allows you to meet and talk to people.

I feel despite the title grind and emphasis on PvE content, PvP is still the endgame. Sure you can get nice skins in PvE but that gets boring quickly, some higher end PvP is harder to get into because of the dwindling playerbase (GvG and HA) which to be quite honest takes at least a year or two minimum to get any good at but there's still lots of things like RA, AB, FA, JQ etc which you can do and there you get to meet/get along with lots of people.

It may be boring for people that have been playing for five years but this is still an amazing game and I know that for everything i've gotten out of guild wars, $250 is a steal (roughly what i've spent in total)

Still in the top 25 online games being played (among xFire users at least, and I see no reason why that userbase would be particularly biased when it comes to GW), so yeah, lots of people are playing Guild Wars.

Buy the Trilogy (all three campaigns, but not EotN) which is has been on sale from Steam & Amazon. Add the access key to your current account. This will upgrade your account without overwriting your existing characters. Jump in and have fun. Amazon has had EotN for sale for $7.50, so that can't get much cheaper without being used (which is against the EULA).
